Visiting and privacy

Every island has one visit level. Each level lets in everyone the narrower ones do, plus more.

Level Who gets in
Private Only the people on this island
Team The venture’s team, from any of its islands
Friends The team and the hosts’ friends
Invite only All of the above, plus people with a visitor link
Open to Harbor Anyone signed in
Public Open to Harbor, and listed on the network for the web
Island Starts at Levels you can pick
Your personal island Friends All except Team
An island made from a GitHub repo Private All except Team
A venture’s home island Private, shown as Team there (its people are the whole team) All except Team
A venture’s other islands Team All six
Harbor and other towns Public Public only

Hosts change the level in the island’s settings. To hide yourself on Harbor instead, press G.

  1. Members of the island always get in.
  2. If you’re not signed in, are banned, or were recently sent away, you don’t.
  3. Above Private, a meeting invite or a visitor pass lets you in.
  4. Otherwise the level decides: team members from Team up, friends from Friends up, everyone at Open to Harbor and Public.

There is no knocking or “request to join”. If you can’t land, the island just says so. Someone inside can invite you instead.

Hosts and co-hosts can make a visitor link for any island above Private.

  • A link is valid for 7 days and can be used by 1 to 50 people (1 by default).
  • The pass it gives lasts 1 hour, 1 day (the default), 1 week, or until you revoke it.
  • Guests need to save their account before they can use one.
  • A link stops working if the person who made it is no longer a host.

Hosts can also send someone away for 15 minutes, or ban them.

Visitors can walk round, see what’s built, and talk. They can’t build, and they don’t see the island’s brain, sessions, private rooms or the Agents desk.

Public share links for an island, with a preview card, are being built. Until then, use a visitor link or set the island to Open to Harbor.
